Olivia is two. She is the daughter of my friend Charlotte. Olivia loves Peter Rabbit. She has lots of bunnies, and other precious toys, and Charlotte wanted a custom bag that Olivia could keep them all in. So she came to me and asked if I could create something big enough to carry the toys, but small enough for Olivia to handle. A tall order indeed, but I was up to the task. I started with the fabric. The first rule of bespoke is you must have the perfect fabric. Obviously this fabric had to have Peter Rabbit on it. I found that all the fabric I really liked, or thought would be suitable, was on websites abroad. But I stuck with it, and finally found a wonderful website in the UK that stocked all sorts of different and unique fabrics, and they had some lovely whimsical Peter Rabbit material that I knew would be perfect. I always buy my fabrics in the UK as I prefer to shop where I live as much as I can. I was off and running. For the lining, I was out doing my weekly shop, and I saw a beautiful pillowcase, pink with pink flowers on it, and I thought – that’s it! That will go perfectly in Olivia’s bag.
I made the handles from the same fabric as the bag, and thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. I embroidered Olivia’s name on the outside. When Olivia and her mum came to pick it up from my magic cabin, Olivia saw the bag on my table. Ooh, she said, that bag has rabbits on it. And it has my name on it. Is that for me? I told her it was, and she was beside herself! Her mum was happy with it too. “Myrtle has made my daughter a super Peter Rabbit bag. It’s perfect for keeping her rabbits and other precious toys in, and as it has been so well made, I am sure it will last a long time. Thank you Myrtle!”
Just a little testimonial for a custom-made bag created for a lovely young lady with a love for Peter Rabbit. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love Peter Rabbit?
